Housed in the beautifully repurposed old Electric Workshop in Newtown’s cultural precinct, the Sci-Bono Discovery Centre is Southern Africa’s largest science centre and a firm family favourite on the 702 Jozi My Jozi Walk the Talk route. Its cavernous industrial hall is packed with hundreds of hands-on, interactive exhibits spanning mathematics, engineering, energy, the human body and technology, all designed to make learning tactile and fun.
Rotating exhibitions, a planetarium-style programme and holiday activities keep the Sci-Bono Discovery Centre fresh for repeat visits, while its education and skills programmes do serious work for Gauteng schools. Central and easy to combine with the neighbouring Market Theatre and Mary Fitzgerald Square, it is an ideal stop for families walking the inner-city route who want an engaging, weather-proof indoor attraction.
