Kaizer Chiefs’ Wandile Duba Faces Death Threats

Kaizer Chiefs forward Wandile Duba has opened up about the extreme criticism he’s faced from fans, revealing that some have gone as far as sending him death threats. Despite this, the 21-year-old striker remains focused on his performance, determined to lead Chiefs to success in the Betway Premiership.

Rising Star Making Waves in the Betway Premiership

Duba has been a standout for the Glamour Boys in the current season, featuring in four league games and already providing an assist. Chiefs’ coach Nasreddine Nabi has shown immense trust in the youngster, who continues to impress with his attacking prowess.

Last season, Duba played a pivotal role in ending Chiefs’ ten-year trophy drought, helping the club lift the 2025 Nedbank Cup with a 2-1 victory over rivals Orlando Pirates. He appeared in 25 matches across all competitions, scoring five goals and providing three assists, proving his value on the pitch.

Handling Criticism and Death Threats

While his performances have earned praise, Duba’s aggressive style has sparked backlash online, with opposition fans calling him a malicious player. Some even crossed the line by issuing death threats, which the striker says do not deter him.

“Being criticised is part of the job. If you do good, they talk; if you do bad, they still talk. So I just need to focus on what I do best,” Duba explained at the Nedbank multipurpose court handover at Phulong Secondary School in Kwa-Thema, Springs.

He admitted the threats can get to him but finds support in his family. “I usually just talk to my brother, and he always guides me. At times, I feel like sending a text back after getting a negative comment or someone swearing at me,” he added.

Fierce Competition in Chiefs’ Attack

Duba faces stiff competition this season with the signings of Flavio Silva and Etiosa Ighodaro, joining Tashreeq Morris and Ashley Du Preez in the Chiefs’ striking lineup. Nevertheless, Duba remains committed to working hard to secure his spot and learn from his new teammates.

“We’ve started the season very well because we are now stronger and understand the coach much better. So, I think we’ll win more games this season,” he said. Chiefs are currently second on the league table with 13 points from four wins and one draw, remaining unbeaten as they head into the FIFA break.

Fearless and Confident on the Field

Duba’s confidence has been evident since his debut, scoring a stunning goal against Golden Arrows. He also made headlines last season by scoring in the Nedbank Cup semi-final against Mamelodi Sundowns, earning Player of the Match honours. His bold pre-match statements, including predicting Chiefs’ Nedbank Cup victory, have made him a polarising figure—admired for his courage yet criticised for his aggressive style.

Despite hard tackles that have sparked criticism, including one on Makhehleni Makhaula in the Nedbank Cup final, Duba remains unshaken by online abuse, focusing instead on his development and contributing to Chiefs’ strong start this season.

Committed to Chiefs’ Success

Amid rumours linking him with a potential transfer, Duba has confirmed his loyalty to the club.

“I think last season I showed that I am ready for anything and to be Kaizer Chiefs’ No. 1 striker. I will still work harder,” he said.

With determination, talent, and resilience, Wandile Duba is proving that he can rise above criticism, remain focused, and help Kaizer Chiefs challenge for the Betway Premiership title this season.
