Top-Selling Cars Under R300,000: Affordable and Popular Picks

Wallet-friendly cars continue to dominate South Africa’s automotive market, with July 2025 sales figures highlighting the strong demand for affordable vehicles, especially among the top-selling cars under R300,000.

VW Polo Vivo Leads the Pack
The Volkswagen Polo Vivo once again led the way as the country’s best-selling passenger car, moving 2,409 units during the month. This made it the second best-selling vehicle overall, just behind the Toyota Hilux.
Not far behind was the Suzuki Swift, which secured the runner-up spot in the budget category with 1,872 units sold. The Chery Tiggo 4 Pro followed in third place with 1,604 units, continuing its steady rise in popularity among local buyers.

Hyundai Grand i10 and Toyota Starlet Hold Strong
Fourth on the list was the Hyundai Grand i10 with 1,464 purchases, while the Toyota Starlet claimed fifth place with 1,322 sales.
The Suzuki Fronx, a newer entry into the market, performed well by landing in sixth place with 1,220 units sold. Close behind was the Kia Sonet, which enjoyed a strong month with 1,103 sales, securing seventh position.

Family Favorites and Compact SUVs
Eighth place went to the Suzuki Ertiga, which appealed to family buyers with 980 units sold, while the Nissan Magnite recorded 790 sales, earning ninth place. Rounding off the list was the Toyota Starlet Cross, which attracted 757 buyers in July.
In total, these ten best-sellers under R300,000 accounted for 13,521 units, making up around 26% of the 51,383 vehicles sold across South Africa during the month.
