Thembinkosi Lorch Seals Permanent Move to Wydad Casablanca

Thembinkosi Lorch has officially left Mamelodi Sundowns, with his agent Steve Kapeluschnik confirming the transfer. The move comes after the 32-year-old’s impressive loan spell in Morocco earlier this year.

Impactful Loan in Morocco

Lorch joined Wydad Casablanca on loan in January, making a big impact in the Botola Pro League and shining on the global stage at the FIFA Club World Cup. His performances convinced the Moroccan giants to trigger a buyout agreement, ensuring his permanent return to North Africa.

Reunited with Mokwena, Winning Over Fans

Lorch first linked up with coach Rulani Mokwena at Sundowns in January 2024 before reuniting with him in Morocco. Even after Mokwena’s exit from Wydad, Lorch continued to thrive, becoming a fan favourite with a series of standout displays.

The Bafana Bafana star featured in all of Wydad’s Club World Cup matches in the USA, going head-to-head with Manchester City, Juventus, and Al Ain, and scoring once during the tournament.

Agent Confirms Move

Kapeluschnik confirmed the transfer but remained tight-lipped on specifics, saying:
“Yes, Lorch has completed a move to start another chapter in his career. But due to confidentiality, I cannot provide further details – that’s for the clubs to announce.”

Lorch’s departure marks a notable shift for Sundowns as they gear up for the new season, while Wydad fans celebrate the return of a proven match-winner to boost their campaign.
