Key Requirements
To qualify for the Radiographer in Radiation Oncology position at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Educational Qualifications:
- A Diploma or Degree that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Radiographer.
- Registration with the HPCSA as an independent Radiographer in Radiation Oncology.
- Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies:
- A comprehensive understanding of radiotherapy standard techniques, including protocols, equipment, and accessories.
- Knowledge of specialized techniques and quality assurance practices in radiotherapy.
- A solid grasp of radiation effects and radiation protection protocols for patients.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
As a Radiographer in Radiation Oncology, your responsibilities will include:
- Radiation Planning & Treatment:
- Undertake basic radiation planning and treatment preparation.
- Treat all patients according to departmental protocols, adhering to both local and international research.
- Perform localization planning and accurately deliver radiation treatment to patients with neoplasms (cancer).
- Quality Assurance & Administrative Duties:
- Conduct daily and weekly quality assurance checks on radiotherapy equipment and processes.
- Perform necessary administrative duties in line with departmental standards and protocols.
- Patient Care:
- Provide physical and emotional support to patients undergoing treatment.
- Assist students during their clinical work to help them develop essential radiography skills.
- Academic & Research Participation:
- Participate in academic activities, contributing to ongoing learning and knowledge exchange within the institution.
