Orlando Pirates Loan Out Saleng Ahead of 2025/26 Campaign

Orlando Pirates have officially announced that winger Monnapule Saleng will be spending the 2025/26 campaign on loan at newly-promoted Orbit College. The unexpected move was confirmed by the club on Wednesday. This marks a significant development in the player’s future following a turbulent season at Mayfair.
Saleng’s exit had been anticipated after months of speculation. This was particularly after his absence from the matchday squad during the latter half of the previous Premier Soccer League season. Despite growing talk of a potential transfer, few predicted he would join a club making its debut in the top flight.
Move to Limpopo Catches Many Off Guard
Saleng’s switch to Orbit College has raised eyebrows. Many expected the 27-year-old to sign for a more seasoned Premiership side. The announcement from the Buccaneers was straightforward: “Orlandopiratesfc.com can confirm that an agreement has been reached with Orbit College FC for the loan of Monnapule Saleng. The 27-year-old will spend the 2025/26 season with the newly crowned outfit.”
The decision marks a fresh chapter for Saleng, who will now aim to reignite his career in Limpopo. Orbit College earned promotion by finishing second in the Motsepe Foundation Championship. They sealed their rise to the top tier through the promotion play-offs. Their decisive 1-0 victory over Cape Town City on 25 June confirmed their historic entry into the Premiership.
A Season to Forget at Mayfair
Saleng’s fall from grace at Pirates has been well-documented. Having been one of the standout performers in earlier campaigns, he found himself sidelined throughout much of 2024/25. His last competitive appearance for the Buccaneers came on 7 December, and things spiralled further when his representatives issued a public statement in February. They alleged “significant issues at the core of the employer-employee relationship.”
These tensions likely played a role in the decision to loan him out. Both parties sought a reset. For Orbit College, it’s a major coup as they prepare for life in the top tier. Meanwhile, Saleng will be eager to prove his critics wrong with consistent performances.
Another Departure Confirmed
In addition to Saleng’s loan exit, Orlando Pirates also announced the release of midfielder Phillip Ndlondlo. The club confirmed his departure on the same day. They stated, “The club extends its sincere gratitude to Phillip for his professionalism and commitment during his spell at Orlando Pirates and wishes him every success in the next chapter of his career.”
Ndlondlo, who joined the Soweto giants in 2022, made 65 appearances across all competitions. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he recorded three goals and three assists during his time with the team. Now a free agent, he will be exploring new opportunities for the upcoming season.
A Fresh Start for Monnapule Saleng and Ndlondlo
With two key players now out of the Pirates setup, the Buccaneers appear to be undergoing a reshuffle ahead of the new season. Saleng’s move to Orbit College offers a lifeline to get back to regular action. Meanwhile, Ndlondlo begins the search for his next challenge.
For Saleng, all eyes will be on whether he can rediscover the form that once made him a fan favourite. Orbit College, meanwhile, gain a player with top-flight experience as they gear up to compete among the country’s elite.
