About the NBI Small Domestic Appliance Repairer Programme
This paid employment programme is designed to provide training for individuals who wish to become Small Domestic Appliance Repairers. Participants will undergo a 12-month programme, consisting of both theoretical learning and hands-on training. During this period, you will acquire essential skills in the installation, maintenance, and repair of small domestic appliances, preparing you for a successful career in the repairs industry.
Key Responsibilities
As a Small Domestic Appliance Repairer, you will be expected to perform a variety of tasks, including:
- Installation, Maintenance, and Repair of Appliances: You will install, maintain, and repair small domestic appliances according to manufacturer specifications and safety standards.
- Diagnosing Problems: Identifying appliance issues and determining the best approach for repair will be a key part of your role.
- Using Diagnostic Equipment and Tools: You will utilize various tools and equipment to troubleshoot and fix appliances.
- Disassembling and Reassembling Appliances: You will be responsible for disassembling faulty appliances, repairing or replacing defective parts, and reassembling them.
- Testing and Quality Assurance: Once repairs are completed, you will test appliances to ensure proper function and safety before leaving the job site.
- Customer Interaction: You will provide excellent customer service by educating clients on the proper use and maintenance of their appliances to prevent future issues.
- Record Keeping: Maintaining accurate records of repairs performed, parts used, and time spent on each job is essential.
- Adherence to Safety Protocols: You will be expected to comply with safety regulations and company policies at all times.
Training and Development
The 12-month programme is divided into two parts:
- Integrated Learning (3 Months): You will undergo training at a college that includes both theoretical and practical sessions. Online learning will also be provided through the Installation Repairs & Maintenance (IRM) Training Application.
- On-the-Job Training (9 Months): After the initial training phase, you will gain hands-on experience by working in actual job sites in your residential area or college. This phase will give you the opportunity to work in various environments, including commercial buildings, businesses, and clients’ residences.
Requirements
To apply for this position, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Matric Certificate
- N3 Technical Qualification in Electrical, Mechanical, or Electronics (N6 is an added advantage)
- Ability to Pass a Background Check and Medical Screening
Salary and Benefits
- Stipend: Participants will receive a stipend of R 4,500.00 per month throughout the duration of the programme.
