Griquas Rise to the Top of the Log

The Suzuki Griquas head into this encounter full of confidence after their commanding 40–10 victory over the Toyota Cheetahs in Bloemfontein. The Kimberley side ran in six tries, including a brace from Gurshwin Wehr, while George Whitehead added five conversions. Despite finishing with just 12 men after three late yellow cards, they proved far too strong.

That result lifted the Griquas to first place on the Currie Cup standings with 25 points from six matches, edging ahead of the Boland Kavaliers (23 points).

Lions Roar in Jukskei Derby

The Lions, meanwhile, come off a statement victory of their own. They demolished the Vodacom Bulls 44–5 in the Jukskei Derby, with former Bulls flyhalf Chris Smith leading the charge. Tries from SJ Kotze, PJ Botha, Richard Kriel, Sam Francis, and Haashim Pead capped off a dominant display.

The result moved the Lions level with the Cheetahs on 21 points, leaving them well-placed to challenge for a playoff berth.

  • The Airlink Pumas stormed back in Cape Town to beat Western Province 39–13, keeping their hopes alive with 20 points on the board.

That leaves the standings finely poised heading into the final round:

  • Griquas – 25 points
  • Boland – 23 points
  • Lions – 21 points
  • Cheetahs – 21 points
  • Pumas – 20 points

All Eyes on Ellis Park
