Limited-Edition BMW 3 Series Lands in South Africa – Price Revealed

BMW has unveiled a very special version of its iconic 3 Series, the 50 Jahre Edition. This marks 50 years since the model first hit the roads. This limited-edition release is a tribute to the legendary sedan. The model has become a cornerstone of BMW’s lineup both globally and in the country.

Celebrating Five Decades of the 3 Series
The BMW 3 Series first made its debut at the 1975 International Motor Show in Frankfurt. It replaced the acclaimed BMW 02 series. Over the years, it has grown into one of the brand’s most popular models. This spans seven generations and comprises more than 20 million sales worldwide. Notably, generations two through six were built locally at BMW’s Rosslyn plant near Pretoria. This gave rise to several South African-exclusive models, which remain highly sought after by collectors. The 3 Series also holds the distinction of being the first vehicle exported from South Africa in 1994.

Limited Numbers for Local Enthusiasts
To celebrate its golden anniversary, BMW is releasing the 50 Jahre Edition in the country. Enthusiasts will need to act fast. BMW allocated only 50 units to South Africa, creating a rare opportunity for collectors and fans alike.
Power and Performance
The Jahre Edition is based on the current seventh-generation 3 Series and comes in two specifications:
- BMW 320 50 Jahre Edition: Features a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 135kW and 300Nm. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.4 seconds.
- BMW M340 xDrive 50 Jahre Edition: Equipped with a 3.0-litre turbo engine delivering 285kW and 500Nm. This model reaches 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.3 seconds.
Both models are fitted with the M Sport package. This enhances their sporty character with high-gloss black exterior trims, aluminium interior accents, and a CraftedClarity cut glass gear selector.

Exclusive Design Touches
The 50 Jahre Edition pays homage to the 3 Series’ history through special exterior colours inspired by previous generations:
- Aegean Blue and British Racing Green from the third generation
- Stratus Grey from the fourth generation
- Lime Rock Grey from the sixth generation
Inside, the editions feature standout touches. The British Racing Green 320 comes with perforated Sensatec upholstery in Cognac. Meanwhile, the M340 xDrive boasts black Vernasca leather with blue contrast stitching. Standard features also include bespoke 19-inch alloy wheels, adaptive M suspension, Park Assist Plus, Driving Assist Professional, and a Harman Kardon stereo system.
