Successful candidates will be responsible for educating and training nursing students in mental health and psychiatric nursing, as well as coordinating clinical learning exposure.

    • PND I: R476,367 – R559,548 per annum (plus benefits)
    • PND II: R583,989 – R766,686 per annum (plus benefits)

Job Requirements

PND I Requirements:

  • Qualification:
    • Matric (Grade 12) certificate or equivalent.
    • Diploma/Degree in Nursing (R.425) or equivalent qualification allowing for registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse.
    • Post-basic or postgraduate qualification in Psychiatric Nursing or Mental Health Nursing.
    • Master’s degree in Nursing (or in the data analysis stage of research) will be considered.
  • Experience:
    • A minimum of 4 years of experience as a Professional Nurse.
    • Less than 1 year experience required for candidates appointed from outside the public service.
  • Other:
    • Proof of registration with SANC.
    • Valid driver’s license.
    • Computer literacy (MS Office), Assessor and Moderator certificates.

PND II Requirements:

  • Qualification:
    • Matric (Grade 12) certificate or equivalent.
    • Diploma/Degree in Nursing (R.425) or equivalent qualification allowing for registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse.
    • Post-basic or postgraduate qualification in Psychiatric Nursing or Mental Health Nursing.
    • Master’s degree in Nursing.
  • Experience:
    • At least 14 years’ nursing experience after registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse, with 10 years of that experience in nursing education.
  • Other:
    • Valid driver’s license.
    • Proof of registration with SANC.
    • Computer literacy (MS Office), Assessor and Moderator certificates.

Key Responsibilities

  • Educational Role: Provide education and training to student mental health nurses.
  • Programme Management: Plan, implement, and manage academic programs using various teaching strategies.
  • Clinical Engagement: Coordinate clinical learning exposure, accompany students in clinical areas, and manage student databases.
  • Assessment and Supervision: Implement assessment strategies to measure student competencies, exercise control over students.
  • Research and Community Engagement: Initiate and/or participate in nursing research and community engagement activities.
  • Professional Development: Participate in ongoing professional development in nursing education and practice.
