Kaizer Chiefs Confirm Departure of Defender Edmilson Dove

Kaizer Chiefs have officially confirmed that Mozambican international Edmilson Dove will be leaving the club at the conclusion of his contract this month. This marks yet another exit in what is shaping up to be a significant squad reshuffle ahead of the new season.

End of the Road for Dove at Naturena

The Soweto giants made the announcement on Tuesday. They revealed that the 30-year-old defender will part ways with the club once his contract expires at the end of June. In a statement shared on their official website, Chiefs expressed appreciation for Dove’s time at the club.

“Kaizer Chiefs and defender Edmilson Dove will part ways when his contract expires at the end of June,” the club confirmed. “We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Edmilson for his contributions to the Club and wish him all the best in his future endeavours.”

Contributions on and off the Pitch

Dove joined the Glamour Boys at the beginning of the 2022/23 campaign. He quickly established himself as a reliable figure in the squad. Over two seasons, he featured in 56 matches across all competitions. Dove managed to find the back of the net twice.

Despite a promising start to his Amakhosi career, injuries hampered his progress. Most notably, a long-term injury ruled him out for much of the recent season. He made his return in January under the leadership of interim coach Cavin Johnson and later Nasreddine Nabi. Dove made 13 appearances in total during the 2023/24 season.

More Departures at Amakhosi

Dove’s exit is part of a growing list of players leaving the Naturena-based club since the conclusion of the campaign. He follows in the footsteps of midfielder Njabulo Blom, youngster Samkelo Zwane, and forward Ranga Chivaviro. They have also departed in recent weeks.

These moves suggest that Amakhosi are undergoing a major overhaul in preparation for the 2025/26 season. Expectations are running high following recent disappointments. The club is clearly aiming to refresh the squad and return to competitive form.

A Shift in Direction

Dove’s departure reflects a broader strategy to revamp the defensive unit. This revamp aims to introduce new energy to the team. With new head coach Nasreddine Nabi likely given the freedom to shape his squad, the technical team is evaluating key areas where change is needed.

There’s been growing speculation that Amakhosi could soon unveil a few high-profile signings. This aims to bolster their backline and midfield — areas that have drawn criticism for inconsistency over the past season.

Fresh Chapter Ahead for Dove

At 30, Dove remains a valuable and experienced player, and his next move will be closely watched. His performances in domestic and international football — including contributions for Mozambique — have proven his quality. He is expected to attract interest from clubs within and beyond the continent.

As Kaizer Chiefs continue their restructuring process, fans will be eager to see who comes in to fill the void left by Dove and others. They are interested in whether the changes will finally steer the club back to its former glory.
