As the Head of Department, the successful candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of midwifery education at the college. You will be responsible for coordinating the facilitation of teaching and learning, managing Work Integrated Learning (WIL), and collaborating with various stakeholders within the Department of Health.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordination of Teaching and Learning: Oversee the facilitation of both theoretical and practical teaching in midwifery.
  • Work Integrated Learning (WIL): Ensure the successful implementation of WIL programs for students.
  • Collaborative Leadership: Build and maintain strong relationships with other educational and health-related institutions.
  • Management Role: Participate actively in the management of the college campus, including budget oversight for academic components.
  • Research and Community Engagement: Coordinate and support scholarly research and community engagement activities.
  • Curriculum Development and Evaluation: Develop, review, and evaluate midwifery curricula to ensure relevance and quality in nursing education.

Minimum Requirements

To qualify for this senior role, applicants must meet the following essential criteria:

  1. Educational Qualifications:
    • A Grade 12/National Senior Certificate.
    • A Basic qualification accredited with SANC (South African Nursing Council), such as a diploma or degree in Nursing.
    • A post-basic qualification in Nursing Education and Administration/Health Service Management, registered with SANC.
    • Assessor and Moderator registered with SANC.
    • Proof of current registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse and Midwife/Accoucheur.
    • A Master’s degree in Nursing.
  2. Experience:
    • Minimum of 9 years’ experience in nursing after registration as a Professional Nurse with SANC, with 5 years focused on Nursing Education.
    • At least 2 years of teaching experience in a post-basic nursing education environment, specifically in midwifery.
  3. Additional Competencies:
    • In-depth knowledge of relevant Acts, Regulations, and policies, including the Code of Ethics and Professional Practice of the South African Nursing Council.
    • Strong skills in human resource management, finance, communication, and leadership.
    • Excellent supervisory, report-writing, and presentation skills.
    • Computer literacy and a valid driver’s license.
