Kaizer Chiefs Transfers: Chiefs’ Dream Striker Signing Faces Collapse Over Financial Gap

Kaizer Chiefs’ ambitions of signing Congolese goal machine Fiston Mayele are hanging by a thread. Financial hurdles and heavyweight Egyptian interest put the entire pursuit at serious risk.

Money Talks—and Fiston Mayele Might Listen

Coach Nasreddine Nabi, determined to rebuild the squad with proven talent, personally scouted Mayele during a recent trip to Egypt. However, sources close to the negotiation table have confirmed that Chiefs may not have the financial muscle to close the deal.

Despite a strong desire to bring the DR Congo international to Naturena, the reality remains harsh. Mayele’s signature is likely to go to the highest bidder. Egyptian giants Pyramids FC are pulling out all the stops to either keep the striker or cash in by selling him. They seek a club that can offer more than what Chiefs are capable of.

Only Sentiment Can Save the Deal

“The only scenario where Mayele joins Kaizer Chiefs is if he values his connection with coach Nabi over a bigger salary,” a source close to the negotiations revealed. It’s a telling sign that Amakhosi may be banking more on emotional ties than financial power in this race.

Pyramids FC are believed to have offered Mayele a fresh two-year contract worth approximately R53 million—a staggering figure that dwarfs Chiefs’ reported maximum offer of R36 million. Chiefs’ proposed package includes a R5 million signing-on fee paid over three years. The monthly salary ranges between R1 million and R1.5 million. While solid by local standards, it hardly competes with what Egyptian clubs are willing to put forward.

Egyptian Clubs Driving Up the Stakes

To make matters worse, Pyramids FC aren’t the only ones eyeing Mayele. A handful of other Egyptian clubs have joined the chase, triggering a potential bidding war that Chiefs simply can’t afford. With limited budgets and South Africa’s market constraints, Amakhosi are increasingly being priced out unless Mayele makes a personal sacrifice.

The striker’s potential arrival at Naturena now hinges less on Kaizer Chiefs’ financial offer. It depends more on whether he is willing to forgo millions to reunite with Nabi and take a shot at success in the Betway Premiership.

Boosting the Backline Amid Setbacks

While the Mayele pursuit remains uncertain, Chiefs have shifted focus to strengthening other areas—particularly their defence. In a surprising turn of events, Amakhosi have reportedly sealed deals with two experienced players from their fierce rivals Orlando Pirates.

On Tuesday, right-back Thabiso Monyane reportedly agreed terms with Chiefs, ending a long chapter at Pirates. The 24-year-old penned an emotional farewell to the Buccaneers. This signaled the end of his tenure and the start of a fresh journey at Naturena. Though details of his contract remain under wraps, his signing marks a significant step in Nabi’s rebuilding plan.

Mako Deal Adds Experience and Depth

In another major coup, 31-year-old Paseka Mako is set to join Chiefs on a three-year contract beginning 1 July. Known for his pace, consistency, and experience in continental competitions, Mako brings a wealth of quality to Chiefs’ left flank. This position has plagued the club in recent seasons.

His exit from Pirates came as a surprise to many, given how integral he had become under coach Jose Riveiro. But with his contract expiring at the end of June and the Buccaneers opting not to renew, Chiefs acted swiftly to secure his services.

Kaizer Chiefs Big Gamble with High Stakes

Kaizer Chiefs are clearly trying to reshape their squad ahead of the new season. However, their marquee striker target may prove elusive unless sentiment outweighs salary. While the additions of Monyane and Mako strengthen the backline, the club’s attacking ambitions remain in limbo as the Mayele saga drags on.

For now, it’s a waiting game—one that could define whether the club’s rebuild turns into a revival or yet another missed opportunity.
