Description

The Rhino & Lion Nature Reserve is a prominent, privately owned, non-subsidised game reserve and wildlife conservation area. Covering approximately 1,600 hectares (4,000 acres) of typical Gauteng Highveld, the reserve offers an accessible wildlife experience close to the city.

Location & Context
The reserve is uniquely situated within the Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site, blending prehistoric human history with modern wildlife conservation.

Proximity: Located about 40 km north-west of Johannesburg and 60 km west of Pretoria, making it an ideal destination for a day trip or weekend getaway.
Wildlife Highlights
The reserve is home to all the animals that give it its name and much more, offering visitors exceptional viewing opportunities:

Rhino: Home to both white and black rhino species.

  • Big Cats: See African lion, including the rare White Lions, cheetah, and leopard.
  • Other Fauna: A diverse range of herbivores, including buffalo, giraffe, zebra, hippopotamus, and numerous antelope species like kudu, eland, and springbok.
  • Breeding Programmes: The reserve is actively involved in successful breeding programmes for endangered species, including the white and black rhino, cheetah, and wild dog.
