Storytelling is the ancestral drumbeat of Africa, echoing memory, wisdom, and identity across generations. The Ungasali Annual Storytelling Festival 2026 marks an evolution from physical performance into a fully immersive theatrical and digital experience, hosted at the iconic South African State Theatre.

Objectives, Cultural Preservation in a Digital Age – To archive, perform, and circulate African oral traditions using modern theatrical and digital formats, Youth Empowerment & Education – To expose learners to storytelling as both a heritage tool and career pathway in the performing arts.

Collaborative Industry Development – To create synergies between Freedom Park, the State Theatre, and national cultural stakeholders. Inclusive Participation – To make storytelling accessible to a wide range of learners, communities, and digital audiences.
