Honour the Fathers 2026: A Father’s Day Celebration of Sound at NIROX
Treat the father figures in your life to an extraordinary outdoor musical experience under the crisp Highveld winter sun next month. On Sunday, 21 June 2026, the acclaimed Honour the Fathers 2026 concert returns to the pristine lawns of the NIROX Sculpture Park in the Cradle of Humankind. Presented in an elegant collaboration with Standard Bank Private, this annual mid-winter gathering pays a beautiful tribute to the literary and musical elders who have gracefully shaped South Africa’s rich cultural heritage across multiple generations.
A Master-Class Lineup of South African Musical Elders
The curated live music program at the open-air NIROX amphitheater brings together legendary local master-craftsmen. Headlining the acoustic stage is the incomparable Vusi Mahlasela, whose timeless folk melodies have historically served as a poignant soundtrack to our country’s liberation and healing.
Joining him on this exceptional billing is the brilliant jazz collaboration Kwanti Leeh!, which features the combined genius of Herbie Tsoaeli, Andile Yenana, Ayanda Sikade, and Sisonke Xonti. The day’s sonic journey continues with deep, soul-stirring performances by the iconic Selaelo Selota, Maskandi legend Madala Kunene, Neo Muyanga’s evocative Gris Gris project, and the infectious, home-grown roots-reggae rhythms of Tidal Waves.
Mid-Winter Feasting and Vital Venue Rules
Beyond the spectacular live music, the day functions as a premium, full-scale family retreat. Attendees can sample a diverse array of artisanal culinary offerings prepared fresh by the food and dessert traders inside the Epicurean Emporium. To keep you perfectly hydrated throughout the afternoon, Bernie’s Bar will serve a wide selection of bubbles, fine wines, and seasonal craft cocktails.
Important Park Policy: Because NIROX operates as a protected, private non-profit foundation dedicated to the arts, absolutely no outside food, beverages, cooler boxes, pets, gazebos, or sporting equipment may be brought into the park grounds.
Gates open early at 10:00 AM on Sunday, allowing you ample time to stroll through the manicured lawns and appreciate the stunning large-scale art installations. The performances will run consistently throughout the day, drawing to a close at sunset. Ample safe, secure parking is provided on-site, and children under adult supervision are welcome to attend.
