Three Kaizer Chiefs Players to Miss the Nedbank Cup Final Showdown

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi has confirmed that his squad will be without several key players. This is for their crucial Nedbank Cup final clash against long-standing rivals Orlando Pirates this Saturday at the sold-out Moses Mabhida Stadium.

As Amakhosi continue their preparations for what could be a season-defining encounter, they’ve been hit by a worrying injury crisis. This may impact their chances of ending a decade-long trophy drought. Speaking during a media open day, Nabi provided a detailed update on the team’s fitness situation. He revealed that three first-team players have been ruled out.

Kaizer Chiefs Key Defenders Sidelined

According to the 59-year-old tactician, centre-back Given Msimango, full-back Reeve Frosler, and young defender Rushwin Dortley will not feature in the final. Their absence is due to ongoing injury concerns. These absences come at a critical time for a Chiefs side already struggling with defensive consistency throughout the campaign.

Adding to the defensive woes, Bradley Cross is also unavailable due to suspension. However, Wandile Duba is eligible once again after serving a suspension. This offers Nabi a slight boost in terms of squad options.

Hope for Returnees

There is, however, a glimmer of hope for Amakhosi. Both Thabo Cele and vice-captain Inacio Miguel are potentially available for selection. The pair recently returned from injury. They featured in the match-day squad during the Soweto Derby league encounter last weekend, with Cele coming on as a substitute. Nabi expressed optimism about their chances of playing in the final. He stated that the medical team will continue assessing them throughout the week.

Kaizer Chiefs players ruled out of the Nedbank Cup Final:

Injured:

  1. Given Msimango
  2. Reeve Frosler
  3. Rushwin Dortley

Suspended:
4. Bradley Cross

Possible returnees (fitness to be assessed):

  • Thabo Cele
  • Inacio Miguel

Depth Concerns Raised

Former Mamelodi Sundowns star Gaston Sirino, now with Chiefs, highlighted what he believes is the squad’s major weakness—lack of depth. Comparing his current club to Sundowns, Sirino pointed out how injuries have forced players to fill unfamiliar roles. This has disrupted the team’s structure. His comments have added further scrutiny to Chiefs’ squad composition ahead of this high-pressure fixture.

A Final with High Stakes

Saturday’s final is about more than just silverware. For Kaizer Chiefs, it presents a rare opportunity to bring joy to their fan base after a disappointing season. A season that could end without a top-eight league finish. Lifting the Nedbank Cup would not only secure a long-awaited trophy but also a place in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup.

Whether Amakhosi can rise above their injury setbacks and deliver remains to be seen. However, one thing is certain—the pressure is immense, and the nation will be watching.
