South Africa Weather Today – Monday, 13 April 2026

Johannesburg is experiencing light rain this Monday with temperatures between 14°C and 17°C, as an autumn weather system brings scattered showers to the interior provinces. The national average temperature sits at 20°C, with Mpumalanga reaching a high of 30°C while the central highveld remains cooler and wet. Gauteng and North West are under rainy conditions, while the Western Cape enjoys clear skies and mild coastal conditions.

What This Means for Your Day

Residents in Gauteng and North West should carry umbrellas and expect slower traffic during the morning commute. The rain in these areas is light but persistent, with high humidity making it feel cooler than actual temperatures suggest. Eastern parts of the country remain dry but cloudy, while Cape Town offers the best conditions for outdoor activities. Those in Mpumalanga and Limpopo will need sun protection despite cloud cover, as UV levels remain moderate in the northeast.

    South Africa Weather Highlights

    • Mpumalanga records the highest temperature at 30°C in Mbombela
    • Limpopo follows with 27°C under overcast skies in Polokwane
    • Light rain affects Gauteng and North West with temperatures in the mid-teens
    • KwaZulu-Natal sees strong southerly winds at 25 km/h along the Durban coast
    • Western Cape enjoys the clearest conditions with sunshine in Cape Town

    Gauteng

Johannesburg is experiencing light rain with temperatures ranging from 14°C to 17°C. Humidity sits at 86% with easterly winds at 3 km/h. The rain is expected to persist through the afternoon, keeping conditions cool and damp across Pretoria and the East Rand. Visibility may be reduced during heavier showers, particularly during peak traffic hours.

    Western Cape

Cape Town enjoys clear skies with temperatures between 17°C and 23°C. Southerly winds at 5 km/h keep conditions pleasant along the coast, with humidity at 69%. The clear weather extends across the Cape Winelands and Garden Route, making it the driest region in the country today. Evening temperatures will drop quickly after sunset.

    KwaZulu-Natal

Durban sees overcast clouds with temperatures from 22°C to 25°C. Strong southerly winds at 25 km/h are affecting the coast, creating choppy sea conditions. Humidity stands at 74%, and the cloud cover is expected to remain thick through the evening. Inland areas around Pietermaritzburg share similar cloudy conditions with slightly cooler readings.

    Mpumalanga

Mbombela reaches 30°C under overcast skies, with a minimum of 19°C. Despite the cloud cover, it remains the warmest region in the country. Easterly winds at 5 km/h and 58% humidity create muggy conditions. The Lowveld will stay warm through the afternoon, while higher-altitude areas along the escarpment remain several degrees cooler.

    Limpopo

Polokwane records 27°C with overcast clouds and temperatures dropping to 18°C overnight. North-northeasterly winds at 9 km/h and 59% humidity keep conditions warm but not oppressive. The cloud cover extends across Tzaneen and Makhado, with no rain expected despite the heavy overcast conditions.

    Free State

Bloemfontein has few clouds with temperatures between 13°C and 22°C. Northerly winds at 21 km/h are the strongest in the province, contributing to a brisk feel despite moderate daytime temperatures. Humidity is 60%, and conditions remain mostly dry across Welkom and the eastern Free State grasslands.

    North West

Mahikeng experiences light rain with temperatures from 15°C to 21°C. North-northeasterly winds at 20 km/h and 77% humidity accompany the showers. The rain is more intermittent than in Gauteng but still sufficient to affect outdoor plans. Rustenburg and Klerksdorp are also receiving scattered showers through the day.

    Northern Cape

Kimberley sees few clouds and temperatures ranging from 16°C to 24°C. Northerly winds at 20 km/h keep conditions breezy, with humidity at a comfortable 48%. The dry weather extends west toward Upington and south toward the Karoo, where clear skies dominate. Overnight temperatures will fall sharply in desert areas.

    Eastern Cape

Gqeberha has scattered clouds with temperatures between 18°C and 22°C. Easterly winds at 6 km/h and 74% humidity create mild coastal conditions. The cloud cover is lighter than in KwaZulu-Natal, and no rain is forecast. Mthatha and East London share similar partly cloudy conditions with calm winds.

    Weekend Outlook

Johannesburg will see clearing skies by Tuesday with temperatures climbing to 23°C under sunny conditions. Wednesday brings scattered clouds and mild weather, but light rain returns on Thursday with a high of 22°C. Friday remains overcast with temperatures around 20°C. The weekend appears to start on a cooler, cloudier note across Gauteng and surrounding provinces, though no heavy rain is expected. Coastal regions can expect stable conditions with moderate temperatures persisting through Saturday and Sunday.

    Weather Tips for Today

    • Carry an umbrella if travelling through Gauteng or North West due to ongoing light rain
    • Dress in layers for Johannesburg’s cool, damp conditions with highs only reaching 17°C
    • Take advantage of clear skies in the Western Cape for outdoor activities
    • Expect strong winds along the KwaZulu-Natal coast; small craft should exercise caution
    • Use sun protection in Mpumalanga and Limpopo despite cloud cover and warm temperatures
    • Prepare for rapidly cooling evening temperatures in the Northern Cape and Free State

WTM Africa 2026: How Gauteng is Driving Tourism Bookings Through Digital Innovation

      By Nomthandazo Ntisa13 April , 2026

Gauteng is shifting its tourism strategy from awareness to measurable bookings at World Travel Market Africa 2026 (WTM Africa) , placing digital platforms at the centre of its growth plan. The province’s presence at the event, taking place from 13 to 15 April at the Cape Town International Convention Centre, reflects a move toward converting global interest into confirmed travel activity. This approach affects local tourism businesses, operators and residents, as it aims to drive economic growth through increased visitor spend and more efficient digital engagement.
