Key Requirements
To be considered for the HOD Clinical role, applicants must meet the following qualifications and experience:
- Grade 12 or equivalent National Certificate.
- A basic qualification registered with the South African Nursing Council (SANC).
- A Degree in Nursing, along with a post-basic qualification in Nursing Education and Nursing Administration (both registered with SANC).
- A minimum of 9 years’ appropriate nursing experience post-registration as a Professional Nurse, including General Nursing and Midwifery.
- 5 years of experience in Nursing Education after completing the nursing education qualification.
- At least 2 years of clinical facilitation experience.
- Proof of registration as an Assessor and Moderator.
- Experience in clinical assessment practice.
- A valid Code 8 driver’s license.
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
In addition to the qualifications and experience, candidates must possess the following key skills:
- Strong communication, supervisory, and report writing abilities.
- Leadership skills in managing clinical teaching and learning.
- Knowledge of nursing education and SANC legislation, Nursing Standards, and Public Service Prescripts.
- Familiarity with Higher Education legislation and policies, and knowledge of Human Resource and Finance management.
Duties and Responsibilities
As the HOD Clinical, the successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing a variety of tasks aimed at ensuring the highest quality of nursing education. The main duties include:
- Managing and supervising all clinical activities across academic departments.
- Facilitating budget planning to meet the clinical needs of nursing students.
- Assisting in curriculum development, with a focus on clinical requirements.
- Coordinating clinical teaching and learning across academic programmes.
- Ensuring compliance with SANC and CHE accreditation requirements for all clinical units.
- Monitoring and developing clinical evaluation tools, workbooks, and other related documents.
- Supervising campus staff and maintaining relationships with clinical stakeholders.
- Moderating clinical assessments and providing ongoing support to students.
- Managing the development of quality assurance programs and ensuring the implementation of relevant policies.
- Actively participating in policy reviews, research activities, and continuous education within the college.
