Something Smoked From Around the World returns for its second edition on Sunday 28 June 2026 at the breathtaking NIROX Sculpture Park in the Cradle of Humankind, this time taking its culinary journey to the glowing alleyways and late-night flavours of Tokyo. Following a successful debut, this unique dining and cultural experience brings together fire, smoke, tradition and creativity in one of South Africa’s most spectacular outdoor settings.
In collaboration with Something Smoked Roadhouse BBQ, The Lawn Pavilion Café and Lounge at NIROX continues its journey through regional culinary traditions, inviting guests to explore a new corner of the world through contemporary cuisine and masterful smoking techniques.
Tokyo Meets the Fire: The Culinary Vision
Something Smoked From Around the World is not a standard food festival. It is a curated culinary narrative where each dish tells a story of place, ingredient and technique. For this Tokyo-inspired edition, Chef Becks and the celebrated Andrea Burgener collaborate to reinterpret Tokyo’s iconic flavours alongside the foundation of exceptional smoked brisket, ribs and sausage.
The menu explores the intersection of Japanese culinary philosophy and the deep, smoky tradition of Southern-style BBQ — a pairing that sounds unlikely and delivers extraordinarily. Smoked vegetables, grills, salads, pickles and seasonal accompaniments harvested from the surrounding region complete the experience, ensuring every element on the plate speaks to both the Tokyo theme and the local terroir of Muldersdrift and the Cradle.
The Setting: NIROX Sculpture Park
NIROX Sculpture Park is one of South Africa’s most extraordinary cultural and natural spaces. Set in the Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site, the park combines sculpture, landscape architecture and nature in a way that creates an atmosphere unlike any other event venue in Gauteng. The Lawn Pavilion Café and Lounge operates within this exceptional environment, offering guests a dining experience surrounded by world-class art and natural beauty.
Something Smoked From Around the World harnesses that setting fully. Eating at NIROX is not just about food — it is about being present in a place of profound beauty and cultural significance.
