The Gauteng Tourism Tour Operators Engagement Program is a strategic initiative
aimed at strengthening the province’s tourism ecosystem by addressing key issues
faced by tour operators. This program seeks to promote compliance, registration,
and quality assurance within the tourism sector, ensuring a safe and professional
experience for visitors. By fostering collaboration among tour operators, e-hailing
services, accommodation providers, and transport operators, the program aims to
build a more sustainable and credible tourism industry in Gauteng.

The engagement
sessions will target tour operators, aspiring operators, and other stakeholders,
providing a platform for open dialogue on challenges such as delays in operating
permits and disruptions caused by unregulated competition. The program
underscores the importance of adhering to regulatory requirements to maintain the
integrity of the tourism sector, and the Gauteng Tourism Authority (GTA) plays a
central role in guiding these efforts through capacity building, awareness campaigns,
and ongoing stakeholder collaboration.

Session One: Understanding Tour Operation, Registration, and Compliance

follow. Key topics include the role of e-hailing services and the tourism desk at
accommodation establishments.
The discussion will emphasize the National Public Transport Regulator (NPTR)’s
requirements and provide insights into the regulatory framework, including the role
of the Department of Transport in addressing disruptions within the sector.

operational issues within the sector.

Session Three: The Road to G20 and Opportunities for Tourism Stakeholders

In this session, stakeholders will discuss the role of tour operators in the G20 summit and the potential joint marketing initiatives that can benefit the tourism sector.
Topics include opportunities for collaboration, information gathering, and protocols related to joint tourism promotion.
The session will highlight how tourism stakeholders, including transportation providers and accommodation services, can work together to enhance the tourism experience for visitors, particularly in preparation for international events like the
G20.
Each session aims to facilitate solution-driven dialogues, foster industry
collaboration, and strengthen the compliance framework in Gauteng’s tourism
sector. Through these webinars, GTA seeks to ensure the sustainable growth of
tourism while upholding the credibility and professionalism of the tour operator subsector.
