Afropocalypse is a vibrant and imaginative South African theatre production running from 19 November to 7 December 2025 at The Market Theatre’s Mannie Manim Theatre in Johannesburg.

Produced by The Market Theatre Laboratory as their 2024 student production and reworked for its successful run at the 2025 National Arts Festival—where it won the prestigious Standard Bank Gold Ovation Award—Afropocalypse captivates audiences with its unique blend of physical comedy and tragic magic realism.

The play follows a group of fourteen intrepid storytellers navigating a post-apocalyptic world, recounting fables of hope, survival, and resilience amidst devastation.

Through vivid storytelling and striking performances, it explores powerful themes such as greed, mortality, religion, and unconditional love, resonating with audiences of all ages.

This energetic production combines poetic narrative with physical theatre to paint a speculative future landscape while reflecting on social and environmental issues relevant today.
