Powerhouses of Women’s Football: Gauteng’s Top Women’s Football Clubs

Gauteng, our country’s economic and cultural hub, boasts a vibrant women’s football scene, with numerous clubs competing at both provincial and national levels. These clubs play a pivotal role in nurturing talent and promoting the sport among women.

Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies Academy

Based in Pretoria, the Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies Academy fields U/20, U/16, and U/14 teams. The U/20 team plays in the Sasol Women’s League, while the younger teams participate in the Gauteng Women’s Development League. JVW FC

Established in 2012 by record national player Janine van Wyk, JVW FC is based in Bedfordview, Gauteng. The club competes in the SAFA Women’s League, our country’s premier women’s football division. Over the years, JVW FC has expanded to include multiple teams across various age groups, all dedicated to identifying, developing, and showcasing female football talent.

University of Johannesburg Women’s F.C.

Representing the University of Johannesburg, this team competes in the SAFA Women’s League. They have a strong track record in university competitions, having clinched the University Sport South Africa (USSA) title multiple times, including wins in 2018, 2019, and 2022.

Croesus Ladies F.C.

Known as the “Greek Queens,” Croesus Ladies, based in Balfour Park, compete in the Sasol Women’s League, our country’s second-tier women’s football league. Founded in 1996, they have achieved significant success, winning the Gauteng Sasol Women’s League title in 2021 and 2023. Their 2023 national championship run saw them reach the semi-finals, underscoring their status as a formidable force in women’s football.

Diepkloof Ladies

Diepkloof Ladies, hailing from the Diepkloof region, are active competitors in the Gauteng Sasol League. Their participation in various fixtures throughout the season demonstrates their dedication to the sport and their community.

Magic Ladies FC

Magic Ladies FC is renowned for its comprehensive development structure for women in football. With a focus on holistic player development, the club’s highly qualified technical staff work diligently to nurture talent, emphasising dedication, discipline, and hard work.

Old Parks Women’s Football Team

Based in Randburg, the Old Parks women’s football team has been a dominant force in the Rand Central District for the past decade. They have secured numerous league and cup titles, reflecting their consistent excellence and commitment to women’s football in our country.
