This guide explains who can appeal, how to submit correctly, and what to do while waiting for an outcome.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Verified October 2026:<\/strong> appeals against declined SRD R370 applications are decided by the Department of Social Development&#8217;s Independent Tribunal for Social Assistance Appeals (ITSAA), not by SASSA itself. Lodge your appeal through the official portal at <a href=\"https:\/\/srd.sassa.gov.za\/appeals\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">srd.sassa.gov.za\/appeals<\/a>, and lodge one appeal for each month that was declined. The tribunal&#8217;s contact points are grantappeals@dsd.gov.za and 012 312 7727.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why SRD Applications Are Declined<\/h2>\n<p>SASSA declines an SRD application when the applicant does not meet one of its qualifying criteria. Based on SASSA&#8217;s published criteria, an application can be declined if you:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>do not pass the means test;<\/li>\n<li>already receive another social grant for yourself;<\/li>\n<li>are younger than 18 or 60 or older;<\/li>\n<li>are not registered on the Department of Home Affairs database (or, if you have no ID, on SASSA&#8217;s social grant database);<\/li>\n<li>are cared for in a state-funded institution.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Facial biometric verification (eKYC) is a separate step, not a reason for a decline. SASSA says all new applicants must complete it before the grant can be approved. If your status shows &#8220;referred&#8221;, log in to the SRD portal, request a link to update your information and complete the facial verification.
