Many parents have focused on the \u201cspecial school holidays\u201d in Term 2, particularly the days falling on 29 April, 30 April, and 2 May. Schools will close on these dates, which has led some to mistakenly believe that changes were made to the calendar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here&#8217;s why:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Freedom Day<\/strong> falls on Sunday, 27 April 2025, and the following Monday (28 April) is a public holiday.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Workers\u2019 Day<\/strong> is on Thursday, 1 May 2025.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>To allow for a full week of rest, schools will also be closed on the <strong>intervening days<\/strong> \u2014 Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday \u2014 making it a 9-day break when weekends are included.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This schedule was confirmed in the original calendar release and does <strong>not<\/strong> represent a change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-department-s-response-to-the-rumours\">The Department\u2019s response to the rumours<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In a statement quoted by <em>The Citizen<\/em>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.education.gov.za\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Department of Basic Education<\/a> reassured the public that the 2025 school calendar remains final and unchanged.
