However, insiders close to the club have indicated that the Tunisian mentor is not heading anywhere just yet.

Kaizer Chiefs’ Standards Slipping

The 2024/25 season has done little to restore Kaizer Chiefs’ former glory. For the second consecutive year, the Soweto giants failed to secure a top-eight finish in the Betway Premiership under Nasreddine Nabi’s leadership, which continues to frustrate the club’s loyal fanbase. Their ninth-place standing is a far cry from the expectations placed on a club of such stature and history, prompting questions about Nasreddine’s efficacy.

While Nabi never promised instant success, he outlined a long-term vision for the team when he took over at the start of the season. Despite his clear ambition to rebuild Amakhosi into a formidable force, on-field results have not reflected any notable progress. Their league performance remains stagnant.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display:block;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1852772760112594"
data-ad-slot="1819787043"
data-ad-format="auto" data-full-width-responsive="true"></ins>

Silverware Softens the Blow

One of the few bright spots in an otherwise disappointing season came in the form of a Nedbank Cup triumph. Chiefs edged arch-rivals Orlando Pirates to clinch their first major trophy in a decade. Under Nabi’s leadership, this moment brought temporary joy to fans but didn’t erase concerns over their league form nor did it completely change the perception of Nasreddine Nabi’s efforts.

That victory, however, has done little to silence questions about Nabi’s future. These questions mainly come from the club’s demanding supporters and former players who have publicly criticized the team’s overall showing.

Pre-Season Planning in Motion

Despite the uncertainty, it appears that Nabi will remain at the helm for now. A trusted source within Naturena has confirmed that the coach will travel with the squad for their upcoming pre-season tour in Europe. Nasreddine Nabi’s continued involvement signals that Chiefs are still aligned with his vision, at least for the immediate future.

“For the time being, he’s expected to join the team on the pre-season tour,” said the insider. “Although his long-term future is still under discussion, he’s involved in transfer planning. Nasreddine Nabi has already submitted a list of players he wants to bring in. That involvement alone shows the club’s intent to continue with him, at least into the new season.”

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display:block;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1852772760112594"
data-ad-slot="1819787043"
data-ad-format="auto" data-full-width-responsive="true"></ins>

Legends Voice Their Frustration

Earlier this week, Kaizer Chiefs legend and former Bafana Bafana captain Neil Tovey weighed in on the team’s struggles. Tovey, who captained Chiefs during the 1990s, expressed his disappointment at the club’s current standing. He called the season “simply not good enough” for a club of Amakhosi’s caliber.

His comments echo the sentiments of many who believe that despite the Nedbank Cup success, there’s still a long way to go. Chiefs, under the guidance of Nasreddine Nabi, are not yet close to reclaiming their dominance in South African football, raising more concerns about Nasreddine’s long-term prospects.

Eyes on the Future

As the dust settles on another underwhelming league season, the spotlight turns to the club’s off-season plans. With Nabi set to lead the squad into a European training camp and active in player recruitment. The signs point towards a continued partnership — for now.

It remains to be seen whether this next phase under Nabi will finally ignite the revival Chiefs fans have longed for. One thing is clear: while doubts remain, Nasreddine Nabi is not packing his bags just yet.

Also read: “Not Good Enough”: Ex-Bafana Captain Criticises Kaizer Chiefs’ League Finish

With another lacklustre campaign behind them, speculation has been rife around the future of Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi.
