He raised concerns about a possible red-card incident.

Those were the coach’s assessments of the officiating, rather than independently established decisions.

Despite his disappointment, Da Cruz acknowledged the quality and experience of the opposition.

He also identified a lack of experience among his younger players as a factor in the closing stages.

According to the coach, Chiefs struggled during the final 20 minutes and allowed Pirates opportunities to extend their lead.

“We know where we must improve,” the coach said.

Hotto was subsequently moved to left-back as Pirates adjusted their defensive approach.

Ouaddou defended his broader methods, emphasising the importance of resilience, defensive organisation and taking goalscoring opportunities.

He acknowledged that Pirates would not always produce their best attacking football but maintained that the team’s fighting spirit remained important.

The coach also addressed criticism of his tactical decisions.

“Sometimes people are judging but please let me do my work,” he said.

His comments followed a derby in which Pirates secured the result despite periods of pressure from their opponents.

Thapelo Mokobodi Named Soweto Derby Man of the Match

Pirates midfielder Thapelo Mokobodi received the Man of the Match award after an influential performance in his first Soweto Derby.

Mokobodi contributed in both attack and defence, helping Pirates create opportunities while supporting the team’s defensive structure.

His performance was particularly important during a contest in which Chiefs repeatedly threatened the Pirates back line.

Moremi also made a significant contribution, scoring the winning goal and providing an attacking threat.

Goalkeeper Chaine played an important role in the opening half with saves that prevented Chiefs from taking advantage of their early chances.

However, his failure to hold Vilakazi’s attempt contributed to Mmodi’s equaliser.

Pirates captain Nkosinathi Sibisi returned to the starting line-up after beginning the previous match against Milford FC on the bench.

The Buccaneers also made changes during the second half, with Ghampani Lungu replacing Nkosikhona Ndaba and Mpho Padime coming on for Thalente Mbatha.

These adjustments formed part of Pirates’ response to the challenges presented by Chiefs.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display:block;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1852772760112594"
data-ad-slot="1819787043"
data-ad-format="auto" data-full-width-responsive="true"></ins>

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});
