And this year, the goal is bigger than ever: raising R15 million to keep the dreams alive.

What is Slipper Day?

Slipper Day is the Reach For A Dream Foundation’s biggest annual fundraiser. The idea is wonderfully simple, buy a R20 sticker, wear your slippers wherever you go on the day, and become part of a national movement that brings hope to children battling serious illnesses such as cancer, congenital heart conditions, and organ failure.

Since its launch in KwaZulu-Natal in 2011, Slipper Day in South Africa has grown into one of the country’s most recognised charity events. This year marks its 15th anniversary, and the theme “Fuzzy Facts”, is a playful invitation to share quirky, hard-to-prove claims about slippers while raising awareness of a very real cause. (Did you know wearing slippers improves your mood by 61%? Maybe. But here’s a fact that isn’t fuzzy at all: 100% of sticker sales go directly to fulfilling children’s dreams.)

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display:block;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1852772760112594"
data-ad-slot="1819787043"
data-ad-format="auto" data-full-width-responsive="true"></ins>

About the Reach For A Dream Foundation

Founded in 1988, the Reach For A Dream Foundation has spent nearly four decades transforming the lives of South African children diagnosed with life-threatening, life-limiting, or terminal illnesses. Its mission is simple but profound, to fulfil the dreams of these children, giving them hope, joy, and something magical to look forward to during some of the hardest days of their young lives.

Over the years, the foundation has made almost 30,000 dreams come true. Today, an average of seven dreams are fulfilled every single day across the country. Some children dream of meeting their favourite celebrity, others of flying in a plane, being a vet for a day, owning something they’ve always longed for, or simply seeing the ocean for the first time. Every dream is treated as a once-in-a-lifetime moment.

As Reach For A Dream CEO Julia Sotirianakos puts it: “Every day, we fulfil seven dreams across South Africa. Through the Fuzzy Facts campaign, we are inviting South Africans to be part of something truly meaningful.”

How Slipper Day Helps Children

When a child is in the middle of long hospital stays, painful treatments, and endless medical appointments, a fulfilled dream offers something powerful, a break from the fear, a moment of pure joy, and a reminder that there is still wonder in the world. Doctors and families alike speak about how this kind of hope can lift a child’s spirit and even support their response to treatment.

At the 2026 campaign launch, 18-year-old Zinokhanyo Nyangule shared her story as a three-time cancer fighter and two-time dreamer. Her dream of being on television was recently brought to life by the foundation. “Reach For A Dream has done a lot for me, more than I can imagine,” she said. “They asked me what my dream is and I said I want to be on TV and they made it happen. That showed me that dreaming is important.”

Stories like Zinokhanyo’s are why Slipper Day matters. Every sticker sold helps another child believe.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display:block;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1852772760112594"
data-ad-slot="1819787043"
data-ad-format="auto" data-full-width-responsive="true"></ins>

How to Participate in Slipper Day 2026

Getting involved is wonderfully easy:

Buy a Slipper Day sticker for R20.
Stickers are on sale from 13 April to 29 May 2026.

Wear your slippers on Friday, 29 May.
Pop them on at school, at work, or anywhere you go. Offices and corporates swap boardroom polish for cosy comfort. Celebrities, sports stars, and media personalities lend their voices — this year’s campaign launch featured Miss South Africa 2026 Qhawekazi Mazaleni and broadcaster Heidi Giokos — and communities everywhere rally together in a shared moment of compassion.

It’s one of the rare charity campaigns where the contribution feels effortless, but the impact is enormous. A R20 sticker may seem small. But multiplied across a nation, those small contributions become the funding behind every meet-and-greet, every plane ride, every “I never thought this could happen to me” smile.

Do It for the Dreamers

Slipper Day 2026 is a chance to come together as a country. Whether you’re a parent, a learner, a colleague, a small business owner, or simply someone who wants to make a difference, your R20 sticker becomes part of something bigger — a R15 million wave of hope for the children who need it most.

So mark your calendar for Friday, 29 May 2026.
