The system is designed to simplify travel while strengthening immigration security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Home Affairs Minister Leon Schreiber announced at the Tourism Business Council of South Africa\u2019s Leadership Conference on Thursday. He highlighted that the ETA will remove long-standing visa barriers that have hindered the country\u2019s tourism growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cThe ETA will revolutionise the immigration experience by replacing inefficiency, queues, and paper forms with a seamless online application system,\u201d said Schreiber. \u201cIt positions South Africa as a forward-thinking nation embracing digital transformation.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-rollout-timeline\">Rollout Timeline<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The ETA rollout will follow a phased approach:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>September 2025<\/strong> \u2013 User acceptance testing begins.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Mid-October 2025<\/strong> \u2013 First phase launches for G20 delegates from China, India, Indonesia, and Mexico entering through OR Tambo and Cape Town international airports.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>November 2025<\/strong> \u2013 Applications open for all tourists from the same four countries.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Future phases<\/strong> \u2013 Full expansion to all visa-required countries once the system proves stable.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Home Affairs confirmed that the ETA will integrate with the upgraded Electronic Movement Control System. This will enable automated biometric checks and reduce wait times at airports. Earlier this year, the department piloted several targeted schemes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Trusted Tour Operator Scheme (TTOS)<\/strong> \u2013 allows accredited tour operators to submit visa details online for their clients.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Meetings, Events, Exhibitions, and Tourism Scheme (MEETS)<\/strong> \u2013 designed for attendees of global conferences, sports events, and exhibitions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Screen Talent and Global Entertainment Scheme (STAGES)<\/strong> \u2013 supports international film and entertainment professionals visiting South Africa.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Minister Schreiber revealed that South Africa previously lost out on a R400 million Netflix production because of restrictive visa processes, underscoring the economic potential of these reforms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Industry bodies such as the Federated Hospitality Association of South Africa (Fedhasa) have welcomed the move. Chairperson Rosemary Anderson described STAGES and MEETS as \u201cpowerful economic enablers\u201d and praised the government\u2019s practical approach to making South Africa more accessible to the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-boost-for-tourism-and-business\">Boost for Tourism and Business<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The digital <a href=\"https:\/\/topauto.co.za\/news\/136313\/new-digital-visa-coming-to-south-africa\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">visa<\/a> transformation will boost South Africa\u2019s appeal as a global destination for both leisure and business travel.
