He is now expected to make his return in South Africa\u2019s upcoming Test against Georgia in Nelspruit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kolisi has been managing a stiff neck and lingering Achilles discomfort. This saw him miss the Springboks\u2019 non-cap international against the Barbarians on 28 June. He also missed the opening Test match against Italy at Loftus Versfeld, a game South Africa won convincingly 42\u201324.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-rassie-erasmus-chooses-caution-over-risk\">Rassie Erasmus Chooses Caution Over Risk<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Although Kolisi is believed to be close to full fitness, Springbok head coach<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gauteng.net\/whats-on-g\/siya-kolisi-still-battling-for-springbok-spot-and-rassie-erasmus-approval\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> Rassie Erasmus<\/a> opted to err on the side of caution. He has ruled him out of this Saturday\u2019s second Test against Italy in Gqeberha.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cWe would\u2019ve loved to have Siya out there,\u201d Erasmus explained. \u201cBut when you weigh up the pros and cons of bringing him back a week early, it just didn\u2019t make sense. It\u2019s not a major injury, but giving him one more week is the smarter move, especially with the long season ahead.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Erasmus hinted that Kolisi was probably capable of playing last weekend. However, he highlighted the importance of squad management over the demanding international season. The Bok coaching team is aiming for players to feature in around 10 games this year, not necessarily more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cHe wants to be involved, especially here at home, and so do guys like Makazole Mapimpi. But we had to think long term. The 29-year-old flanker impressed in the win over Italy, scoring a try and putting in a relentless defensive shift.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Erasmus praised Van Staden for his tireless work ethic and unsung contributions at the breakdown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMarco\u2019s a guy who quietly does the hard work. It was great to see him take his chance,\u201d Erasmus said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a result, Van Staden has retained his place in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gauteng.net\/whats-on-g\/springboks-omit-young-talent\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">starting lineup<\/a> for this weekend\u2019s rematch against the Azzurri. He is one of only four players from last week\u2019s run-on team to do so. Erasmus hopes that consistency in selection, particularly among the loose forwards, will help address some of the breakdown issues seen during the first Test.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-kolisi-s-return-signals-depth-and-direction\">Kolisi&#8217;s Return Signals Depth and Direction<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Kolisi is now expected to feature in the one-off Test against <a href=\"https:\/\/www.citizen.co.za\/sport\/rugby\/siya-kolisi-misses-third-game-in-a-row-rassie\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Georgia<\/a> next weekend. While his injuries are not serious, the coaching staff is determined to manage his workload effectively. They want to ensure he\u2019s fully fit for the bigger challenges to come later in the season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With Van Staden making the most of his opportunities and Kolisi\u2019s return on the horizon, the Springboks are building impressive depth in their loose trio.
