The experienced tactician has been handed the reins ahead of the upcoming 2025/26 Betway Premiership campaign. This marks the latest shift in the club’s off-season revamp.

New Leadership for Magesi FC’s New Chapter

Maduka, a 54-year-old former Malawi international, replaces Owen Da Gama. Owen departed the club just a week ago following an underwhelming league performance. The team finished 13th on the table. Magesi, however, enjoyed cup success last season and are now banking on Maduka’s tactical nous to build on that momentum.

The club confirmed the news in an official statement, saying:

“Magesi Football Club is pleased to announce the appointment of John Maduka as the team’s new Head Coach. His most recent post was at Royal AM, which ended abruptly midway through last season. This was due to financial issues involving owner Shauwn “MaMkhize” Mkhize and the South African Revenue Service (SARS).

Now at Magesi, Maduka is expected to stabilise the squad and push for a stronger finish in the league. All this while leading the side’s title defence in the Carling Knockout Cup. His reputation for developing players and implementing an attacking brand of football could be crucial. It could bring just what the club needs during this rebuilding phase.

Significant Squad Changes Underway

In line with their new direction, Magesi have also confirmed a mass squad shake-up, parting ways with 10 players as they aim to refresh their roster. Those shown the exit door include high-profile names such as Gift Motupa, Ntsako Makhubela, and Deolin Mekoa. The full list also includes Rhulani Manzini, Amos Mokwena, Boikanyo Komane, Maboke Matlakala, Anathi Ngwadla, Given Mashikinya and Menzi Ndwandwe.

This extensive clear-out signals a major restructuring under Maduka’s leadership. The board’s decision to bring in Maduka, coupled with a renewed transfer strategy, shows clear intent.
