They unveiled three new additions as they gear up for what they hope will be a turning point in the 2025/26 season. Following a frustrating campaign riddled with inconsistency, the Soweto giants have added left-back Nkanyiso Shinga, midfielder Ethan Chislett, and striker Flavio Silva. These players are meant to inject quality and depth into key areas of the pitch.

After another year of missed targets and mid-table mediocrity, the pressure is mounting on the Amakhosi. They need to restore their stature as genuine title contenders. Head coach Nasreddine Nabi enters his second full season in charge. The club is clearly moving with urgency to avoid a repeat of past disappointments.

A New Defensive Option: Nkanyiso Shinga

Defensive frailties plagued the Glamour Boys last season. They leaked goals far too often, unsettling any rhythm or confidence the team tried to establish. The left-back position became symbolic of the team’s instability. Multiple players—including Bradley Cross and Bongani Sam—failed to cement their spot due to form and fitness struggles.

Enter 25-year-old Nkanyiso Shinga. Seen as a more balanced and attack-minded fullback, Shinga arrives to bring stability and structure to a disorganised backline. His arrival could also see him form a potential partnership on the left flank with Paseka Mako. This is contingent on the rumors of Mako’s move to Naturena materialising. Chiefs fans will hope this pairing helps solidify a defence that too often let them down in critical moments.

Player Announcements!

We are pleased to announce the signing of 25-year old Nkanyiso Shinga. With Ranga Chivaviro failing to make the desired impact and subsequently departing, the club has turned to Portuguese forward Flavio Silva to lead their line.

Silva, 29, brings a physical edge and a knack for finding the net. His most recent spell in Indonesia saw him notch 39 goals in 78 matches—impressive numbers despite the relative obscurity of the league. Before that, he featured in Portugal’s second division. There he managed 13 goals across 87 appearances.

Critics may question the standard of competition he faced abroad. Nevertheless, Chiefs clearly believe he offers an upgrade in finishing ability—something sorely lacking last term. His presence should bring much-needed firepower and create a focal point around which the attack can build.

New jersey #77 #WelcomeSilva #Amakhosi4Life pic.twitter.com/dFw2jfkZHZ
— Kaizer Chiefs (@KaizerChiefs) July 1, 2025

Chislett Set to Light Up the Midfield

Arguably the standout signing of the trio is 26-year-old attacking midfielder Ethan Chislett. Having cut his teeth in England’s lower leagues with stints at AFC Wimbledon and Port Vale, Chislett arrives with a reputation for flair, vision, and a nose for goal.

His creativity could be the key to unlocking defences—an area where Chiefs too often looked short on ideas. Paired with Thabo Cele, who impressed after joining last season, Chislett’s inclusion may give Nabi the dynamic midfield core he’s been searching for.

The technical ability and energy he brings could transform the team’s attacking transitions. This could give strikers like Silva more service and opportunities in the final third.

New jersey #..⌛️ WelcomeChislett#Amakhosi4Life pic.twitter.com/RxEsdfOK17
— Kaizer Chiefs (@KaizerChiefs) July 1, 2025

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display:block;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1852772760112594"
data-ad-slot="1819787043"
data-ad-format="auto" data-full-width-responsive="true"></ins>

More to Come?

With the transfer window still open, it’s likely that the Chiefs’ recruitment drive isn’t finished. The three new faces already signal a clear intention to overhaul underperforming departments. Nevertheless, a deeper squad may be required to manage the demands of both the domestic season and a return to continental competition through the CAF Confederation Cup.

Can Kaizer Chiefs Finally Turn the Corner?

Last season’s Nedbank Cup triumph offered a sliver of optimism, but the real test lies in week-to-week league consistency. The bar has been raised, and expectations are crystal clear—no more excuses.

With three new players now in the fold and Nabi better acquainted with the volatile landscape of South African football, Chiefs fans may finally dare to believe.
