The 6th Soweto International Film Festival Returns with bang!

The Soweto International Film Festival (SIFF), in collaboration with Ster- Kinekor Cinema and Gauteng Film Commission, is pleased to announce the highly anticipated 6th edition of the festival. The festival will take place in the vibrant township of Soweto, Johannesburg, from [23-25 November 2023].

SIFF has long been recognized as a platform for filmmakers to showcase their extra ordinary work and contribute to the cultural enrichment of the community of Soweto as a film industry destination of choice. With each passing year, the festival has grown in stature, attracting local and international talent, while providing captivating and thought provoking movies for audiences.

Ster-Kinekor Cinema and Gauteng Film Commission have again partnered with SIFF to further enhance the festivals impact and promote the development of the local film industry. These long standing collaborative efforts aim to highlight and support the talents unique to Gauteng as a City Region, while also creating opportunities for networking, mentorship and growth within the cinematic arts sector.

SIFF features an eclectic mix of narrative features, documentaries, short films, animations & student films all under varied genres of the film industry. In addition to showcasing excellent filmmaking, the festival also offers panel discussions, workshops and master-classes covering various industry related topics.

SIFF Executive Director Mr. Thapelo Motloung expressed their excitement for the festival’s 6th edition. ‘We are thrilled to have Ster-Kinekor Cinema and GFC as our partners, reaffirming our shared
commitment to fostering the growth and appreciation of Cinema within Soweto and beyond. We are dedicated to delivering a world class festival that celebrates diverse storytelling and empowers emerging filmmakers.

Gauteng Film Commission also expressed their enthusiasm for the partnership and their commitment to expanding creative opportunities within the Gauteng film industry through collaborative projects such as Soweto International Film Festival. This year’s SIFF promises to be a memorable event, empowering filmmakers, entertaining audiences and celebrating the vibrant cultural heritage of Soweto.
