The G-Bets Gauteng Summer Cup, one of the most prestigious events on the province’s social calendar, takes place on Saturday 1 December at the Turffontein Racecourse in Johannesburg.
Building on a legacy that dates back to 1897, the Summer Cup has grown to become way more than a premier horse-racing event.
Gates open at 11am on a day that will be packed with quality fields competing for a share in the R2-million purse. While backing a winner remains a thrill, the gathering also offers a wide range of entertainment and year-end party opportunity for hundreds of racegoers.
Informally known as “the people’s race”, the main race will be heralded by a glittering half-time extravaganza featuring top South African performers, including electronic trio GoodLuck, a large-scale field band, drum majorettes, dancers and singers.
Given that the Summer Cup attracts socialites, fashionistas, members of the international and local horse-racing fraternity and high-profile celebrities, numerous hospitality areas will be dedicated to fine cuisine, drinks, roving fashion shows and musical entertainment.

A dedicated family zone located above the finishing stretch will feature a fun carnival with a ferris wheel, various rides, face painting, buskers and loads of treats for children.
