Don’t miss the story of this famous, lively “mixed” suburb of Johannesburg in its heyday during the 1940s and 1950s. Sophiatown will be staged at the South African State Theatre in Pretoria, Tshwane, from 10 April to 13 May 2018.
Under the artist direction of award-winning playwright and producer Aubrey Sekhabi, the musical’s new, young cast will tell the story of a group of journalists who live together and advertise for another housemate. In the face of repressive apartheid laws and segregation, a white, Jewish woman moves in. This promises to be a joyous experience with music and original songs from back in the day.
Tickets for general admission are R110 (R55 on Tuesdays).
