Director and theatre producer Mbongeni Ngema's acclaimed musical Sarafina is coming to life again at The South African State Theatre in Pretoria, Tshwane. The opening night is 10 March 2017 and the show runs until 20 May 2017. Preview performances will run from 28 February to 9 March 2017.

The play, which also came out in a movie version in 1992, premiered on Broadway in 1988 and tells the story of Sarafina, a young woman who joins the fight against apartheid. The musical is set in the context of the 1976 student protests and features music from genres such as mbaqanga, jazz, gospel and more. The shows will run at various times throughout the month.

Tickets cost between R120 and R180, with discounts for groups of 10 or more.
