More lit than Maboneng: The 5 coolest moments from Meetings Africa 2019

And now for some beautiful flashbacks from Africa’s biggest tourism industry event. Held last week, from Monday 25 to Thursday 28 February.

O.R. Tambo or Lanseria? Both! Because the best moment for the delegates of  the 14th inaugural Meetings Africa was surely when the plane finally landed at the continent’s ultimate business and leisure destination, namely Jozi. With some delegates arriving weeks in advance, just to add some ticks to their bucket lists.

Even the weather couldn’t dampen our mood (tjo, bekune-weather) on Monday evening. We networked locally and internationally. We advocated for Africa’s finest business, tourist and creative offerings. And we dined (and wined) on world-class African cuisine. This with over 40 of the biggest local-international players amongst media, business and influencer personalities. Hosted by the top brass of SA Tourism and the Gauteng Tourism Authority. At Caprivi Restaurant, the bosom of Tembisa township. An event which lived well up to its promise. (Bona, it’s not called Tembisa for nothing!)

How can we get more African guests touring Africa and South Africa? How can we improve safety and security for our visitors? How clear is our vision for 2020? Those are some of the big questions Mr Derek Hanekom, Minister of Tourism,  and Mr Sisa Ntshona, CEO of SA Tourism, had to answer in the panel discussion which took place on Tuesday at the Sandton Convention Centre. (P.S. The round table wasn’t really round.)

Work from anywhere in Africa. That was the message as over 400 creatives, vendors and exhibitors took part in an all-week showcase of their wares. From craft to the best business-leisure destinations from which international businesses can host team building, meetings, conferences and exhibitions on the continent. Because the best ideas don’t happen at the office.

Hair down, lighters up. That’s how we officially closed down Meetings Africa 2019 last Thursday. With MoAfrika and Them Cats on instruments and vocals. At Sandton’s finest, the Maximillien Restaurant. Gauteng province, stand up!
