The Vaal is buzzing with art and fashion this week. Further north, the sounds of Lagos Thursdays are in Joburg, a wooden boy comes to life and we celebrate wine and whisky.
Ekurhuleni Wine and Whisky Classic
10 and 11 November
Taste the finest wines and whiskies in the country while enjoying great food and company. The event will start at 5pm on Friday the 10th and at 2pm on Saturday the 11th. Tickets cost R180 for general entry and R250 for VIP entry.
Fashion Without Borders VAAL
You can expect a showcase of ready-to-wear fashion designs from up-and-coming designers, while new models also showcase their talent. The show will start at 7pm and end at 10pm.
Ticket prices range from R180 for general access to R500 for VIP access. Discounts are available for students and group bookings.
The play will be under the direction of Janice Honeyman and tells the story of the wooden marionette who comes to life and whose nose grows longer every time he lies.
The cast will include local actors, musicians and entertainers such as Tobie Cronjé, Andre Schwartz, Chi Mhende, Ilse Klink, Garth Collins and Kanyi Nokwe.
Ticket prices range from R110 to R365.
The outfit – led by Koya on tenor saxophone – will showcase their work in the lead-up to the launch of their album, Village Afrobeat, in March 2018. The show starts at 8.30pm and ends at 11.30pm.

Vaal Art Expo
16 and 17 November
The event aims to introduce fine art to the Vaal community and to encourage support for Vaal-based artists.
All artworks will be available for sale, with 10% of the proceeds going to the independent Rejuvenation Trust. The expo will start at 10am and end at 8pm.
Entrance is free.
