The Irene Village Market will be hosting a Christmas market every Saturday and the long weekend before Christmas, when the Big Red Barn will be packed with curated, original South African handmade arts and crafts. Bring the family along to enjoy the festive vibe and enjoy the music. 

Set up on the lawns of the Sunlawns Estate overlooking the Kaal River, the venue is ideal for kids. There are also Acrobranch adventures and Segway activities on offer, a 10km to 20km mountain bike route, trail runs and the Olifants Cafe. Pooches on leads are welcome!

Montecasino Christmas Village, Fourways

12 to 17 December 2018

Montecasino’s fifth annual Christmas Village is set to transform the piazza into a European-style festive wonderland by night. More than 60 exhibitors will be showcasing all things festive, from fairy lights to reindeer hats, Christmas picnic baskets, yuletide biscuits and loads more.

While the adults fill their baskets and sample craft beer, artisanal gin or champagne popsicles, the kids will be spoiled with a line-up of different movies each night on the big screen, starting at 6pm. Entry is R10 for adults; kids under 12 and pensioners enter for free.

Moonlight Markets at Bryanston Organic & Natural Market, Bryanston

With the focus firmly on family festive cheer, the Bryanston Organic & Natural Market’s annual Moonlight Markets will take place over the festive season on Tuesday evenings from 5pm to 9pm. 

Celebrating the joy of Christmas, these special markets will feature festive lights, quality crafts and family entertainment – including a children’s theatre – and good food, music and snacks.

Adults pay R20 to enter, while children under 12 enjoy free entry.

Christmas Fairytale Festival, Walkerville

1 December 2018

The whole family will appreciate the enchantment that comes with Christmas – twinkling lights, princesses, fairies, pixies, elves, magic trails and more – at In The Forest’s Christmas Fairytale Festival from 10am to 4.30pm.

There will also be shipwrecks, giant sandpits, a splash pool with fountains and a letter box for kiddies to post their Christmas wishes to Santa. Carefully selected stalls will be selling handcrafted gifts, and artisanal food trucks will offer eats and drinks.

Tickets bought online via Nutickets cost R80 for adults and R30 for pensioners and children aged three to 12. You’ll pay R20 more if you buy tickets at the gate. Activities are extra. Come dressed up for more fun!

Christkindl Markt, Pretoria

Celebrate the season of goodwill under festive lights, with plenty of stalls from which to select that special Christmas gift at this traditional German Christmas market.

Expect an abundance of German food and cookies, festive lights, decorations, stalls, music and gifts.

Summer Market 2018, Heidelberg

The Summer Market at the Poortjie Venue & Guesthouse in Groenfontein Road, Heidelberg, starts at 9am and runs to 4pm.

Expect to find great food, craft drinks, contemporary craft, bespoke design items, live music and entertainment for the kiddies on offer in an expansive hall. There’s a R10 entry fee.

Garden of Lights, Peermont D’oreale Grande at Emperors Palace, Kempton Park

Find the Garden of Lights, along with a Christmas crafters fair, food stalls and lots of fun activities, at the five-star D’oreale Grande Hotel at Emperors Palace. This festive occasion is a mix of fun events, yuletide stalls and Christmas-inspired exhibits.

Treat the kids to a visit to the Enchanted Garden, Mystic Castle and Magic Sweet Shop, before following the signs to the North Pole and Santa’s Workshop, where they can watch the elves hard at work making and packing presents.

There’s also a funfair with loads of popular rides. The crafters fair will offer toys, jewellery, decor and gifts – plus an opportunity to meet Santa.
