This year Mandela Day and Mandela Month take on special significance as 2018 would have been Madiba’s 100th birthday year.
As we approach his birth date on 18 July, take time out to visit two exhibitions in Gauteng and reflect on the man and his legacy.
The first is the Mandela100 exhibition being hosted by the FotoZA Gallery, Shop 402, Level 4 at the Rosebank Mall in Johannesburg.
The exhibition is one of the Nelson Mandela Foundation’s commemorative programmes celebrating Mandela’s 1918 birth.
It showcases a number of rarely seen images and archived documents loaned by the Foundation and some of its partners.
When visiting the exhibition, don’t forget to contribute to the Nelson Mandela Foundation’s letter-writing campaign by adding your written message to Mandela to those to be displayed on a designated wall.
The exhibition is open from Monday to Friday from 10am to 3.30pm and on Saturdays and Sundays from 10am to 4pm until the end of July. Admission is free.
Iconic Historic Moments exhibition
Iconic Historic Moments, an exhibition of the works of renowned photographer Oscar Gutierrez, features relatively recent iconic images selected from his extensive archive. The photographs will be on sale to the public.
The photographic exhibition runs from 7 to 15 July at the Upstairs@Bamboo venue, 24 9th street Melville.
The Nelson Mandela Foundation will benefit from 5% of all proceeds taken from the sale of photographs over the exhibition period.
The exhibition is open daily. Entrance is free.
