High-end dishes and craft beers are the mandate of the menu at The Foundry – a gastro pub located in Parktown North. The restaurant’s industrial feel is delicately softened with selected design elements. Brick walls, unvarnished wooden ceilings, mahogany tables and hand-blown glass light fittings heighten the intimacy of the space, while leather trimmings warm the furnishings.
The Foundry offers two separate lunch and dinner menus. Signature dishes on the lunch menu are the cheese planks, served on heavy chopping boards, and the Royales (sandwiches) on artisan bread with root vegetable crisps.
For dinner, the trio of sausages accompanied by melt-in-the-mouth potato gnocchi is a firm favourite among patrons. For vegetarians, The Foundry’s handmade ravioli with field mushrooms, feta and spring onions will be sure to satisfy.
Both menus are rounded off with the likes of warm chocolate fondant and Madagascan vanilla-bean brûlée for dessert.
Although there are non-alcoholic beverage options, craft beers and malt whiskies are the prime drawcards on The Foundry’s drinks menu. Nine craft beers are available on two taps – one dedicated to light lagers and another for dark beers, including Lumberjack Amber Ale and Darling Slow Beer. Incorporating bottled ales takes the tally to more than 45 beer options on the menu including Jack Black Pale Ale, Jack Black’s Premium Beer and Van Hunks Pumpkin Ale.
Wine connoisseurs can take their pick from an extensive list of over 55 local and international wines plus a selection of French champagne and Italian bubblies.
A special roaster was imported from Germany to prepare luscious coffee brews.
