The Cog & Sprocket Mountain Bike Club offers African Pride Mount Grace Country Hotel & Spa guests and day visitors the opportunity to explore the countryside near Magaliesburg in the fresh outdoors. The area is ideally suited to mountain biking, with a mix of challenging terrain and open road.
There are three medium-graded, single-track routes over 5km, 7.5km and 12km, with the longest taking an average of two-and-a-half hours. The longer tracks incorporate extra loops that are clearly signposted. All tracks start and finish at The Cog & Sprocket trail centre.
Take advantage of special packages for mountain-biking enthusiasts by booking a family break in five-star luxury at the hotel.
The trails begin in the shaded valley forest and follow a single-track gravel road up a gentle incline. The road then widens into a double track and follows a series of switchbacks up to the valley rim overlooking the town.
The downhill track boasts stunning valley views before narrowing to a single-track steep downhill section that includes switchbacks and suspension bridges for added interest and test of skill. The track ends back at the starting point.
The trails are open on Saturdays, Sundays, public holidays and during the school holidays from 6am to 6pm. On Fridays, a daily access fee allows riders in from noon to 6pm. A special feature is full-moon night rides.
The centre offers ablutions facilities, bays for washing bikes, braai facilities, open lawns, a jungle gym and parking.
With capacity for 120, the venue also televises major sports events and has an outdoor area for corporate events or team-building.
