Considered Johannesburg’s original outdoor market, it has been running for nearly 40 years, creating a colourful shopping oasis twice weekly in the upmarket suburb.
The market is described as “a place of relaxed enjoyment for the whole family”. Musical offerings are a regular feature – check out the calendar to see who's scheduled – and the kids can be kept entertained with activities ranging from a gemstone scratch patch to stone crafting and candle making.
Produce at the market is organic, natural, delicious and nutritious, and mostly grown locally. Baked goods are certified organic or guaranteed free from additives, preservatives and colourants.
In addition to the fresh produce, stallholders offer a wide range of products, including accessories; art; sculpture; clothing; knitted goods; items made from wood, leather, glass and metal; pottery; curios; jewellery; toys; plants; and flowers.
In the service category, market-goers can stock up on a comprehensive range of non-fiction; have a massage the shiatsu stall; or have that antique crystal chandelier fixed at the specialist crystal and glass repairer stall.
