If you are looking for something fun to do on a Saturday afternoon in Johannesburg, pay a visit to the buzzing Neighbourgoods Market in Braamfontein. Following the success of the Neighbourgood’s market at Cape Town’s Old Biscuit Mill, a Johannesburg version of the trendy food and lifestyle market was opened in 2011. In the spirit of urban regeneration, a venue in the heart of the inner city was chosen and every week the busy market attracts thousands of visitors.

Occupying two floors of a distinctive landmark building on one of Braamfontein’s busiest corners, the market boasts over 100 speciality traders selling everything from sizzling paella, fruit smoothies, craft beers, vegetarian snacks and cupcakes to vintage clothing, handmade jewellery and other funky accessories.

The second floor is an open-air rooftop, which is the most popular place to sit and enjoy a cocktail or a fresh juice in the sun while soaking up the lively urban atmosphere.

On the first Thursday of every of every month there is also a Neighbourgoods night market, which includes an evening of live music on the second-floor rooftop.
