National Zoological Gardens of South Africa

The largest zoo in the country, the National Zoological Gardens of South Africa, is situated in Pretoria and covers 85 hectares. The zoo houses 209 mammal species, 202 bird species, 190 fish species, four invertebrate species, 93 reptile species, and seven amphibian species, plus a host of exotic trees. 

Be sure to visit the reptile park and the aquarium, the largest inland marine aquarium in the country.

The zoo offers educational programmes for schools, school lessons to the various grades and holiday courses.

The zoo falls under the South African National Biodiversity Institute which focuses on the preservation of the country's fauna and flora.

The aquarium, waterhole, hippo lapa and flamingo terrace are just some of unique venues at which to host functions, weddings or children’s parties, each with interesting menus to choose from.
