You’ll find superb Chinese seafood served at Fisherman's Plate in Cyrildene in the heart of Johannesburg's Chinatown (the owners are South Indian and Taiwanese). With its simple interior this is a low-brow but high taste experience.
The restaurant is best experienced in a group so that you can sample a range of favourite items like ginger and spring onion crab, whole steamed fish, crispy garlic prawns and chilli mussels, washed down with Chinese Tsingtao beer.
Beef and chicken options and the sticky pork spare ribs will impress the carnivores. You can also order local beers and there’s a limited wine list from which to choose, or you can take your own.
The service is friendly and attentive. Open for lunch and dinner, Tuesday to Sunday.
Open Tuesday to Sunday from 12pm to 2.30pm and from 5.30pm to 9pm.
