Brooklyn is a suburb in the city of Pretoria, the administrative capital of South Africa. It is close to the city centre of Pretoria and is an upmarket residential area with plenty of malls, heritage sites, attractions, restaurants and bars.

The well-known Pretoria Boys High School is located in Brooklyn, and the University of Pretoria is also in close proximity.

Arguably one of the most popular malls in the area, and certainly the most convenient, is the Brooklyn Mall and the adjacent Brooklyn Square, which occupies a covered outdoor area. Here you will find more than 200 retail stores, a cinema, entertainment facilities, restaurants and coffee shops. Brooklyn Square is lined with popular restaurants and bars and has a generally festive atmosphere.

The Art House on Brooklyn is an exclusive gallery that displays fine art paintings, contemporary paintings, woodwork and sculptures by various South African artists. The Brooklyn Tea Garden is located at Brooklyn Guesthouses and offers a beautiful setting for relaxed breakfasts, light meals and Sunday buffet lunches.

Nearby attractions and activities

The Mandela Statue at the Union Buildings is an absolute must-see. The 9m-high bronze statue was unveiled shortly after Mandela’s death in 2013. Pretoria Church Square is a Pretoria landmark located in the centre of Pretoria, a short drive from Brooklyn and has lots of beautiful old buildings to admire. The Pretoria National Botanical Garden, with indigenous plants from all over South Africa, is also a short drive away, and offers a naturally beautiful area to relax.
