The minibus takes visitors on a whistle-stop two-hour tour of this Gauteng neighbourhood’s most famous sights and is ideal for visitors who have only a limited time to explore Soweto. All the SoWeToo guides are from the Soweto and one of the highlights of the tour is learning about the area's incredible history and unique culture from a local perspective. Soweto is home to some of the greatest tourist attractions in South Africa.
The tour makes nine stops in Soweto, starting at the FNB Stadium, before passing the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, one of the largest hospitals in Africa, on its way to the iconic Orlando cooling towers.
The tour then stops at Vilakazi Street for a brief walk through the neighbourhood that was once home to Nelson Mandela, and towards the Hector Pieterson Memorial, which marks the place where the Soweto riots of 1976 began.
The bus also makes a visit to Kliptown’s Walter Sisulu Square, where you can learn about the Congress of the People, which was held there in 1955. The tour ends at Gold Reef City, where you can reconnect with the main City Sightseeing bus tour route.
Buses leave from Gold Reef City, Ormonde. Tickets can be booked online or at the City Sightseeing desk at the entrance to Gold Reef City casino.
