Gauteng is the business powerhouse of South Africa. The landlocked province is surrounded by four other provinces and is one of South Africa’s nine provinces.

Ekurhuleni region

Sedibeng is located in the south of Gauteng. The name Sedibeng means “place of the pool” in Sesotho, the language of choice for many of the region’s inhabitants.

Tshwane region

Tshwane is South Africa’s administrative hub, home to the seat of the national government, a number of research institutes, trade offices and more than 100 embassies.

West Rand region

The West Rand comprises Mogale City, Merafong City, Randfontein and Westonaria. The region is known for its scenic geography, bordering the Magaliesberg mountain range, its agriculture and rich mining history.

The Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site (COH WHS) is located in the north-western quadrant of Gauteng in South Africa. It is a 47 000ha area about 45km north-west of Johannesburg.

Dinokeng fast facts

Dinokeng is situated in the north-east of Gauteng, just 90km from Johannesburg and 50km from Pretoria, and offers visitors an idyllic bush retreat.

Getting around Gauteng

Most visitors to Gauteng get around by vehicle. The province has a well-developed road network, with several arterial routes leading into the main centres of Johannesburg and Pretoria.
