Where to celebrate Youth Day this year

June 16 is the day we remember the sacrifices made by the youth of 1976. This year, the country is commemorating its 41st  anniversary with events aimed at empowering the youth, expressing their creative talents or just having fun. Here are a few we’ll be attending:

Youth Expressions Festival 2017

The education, youth and children theatre department of the South African State Theatre in Pretoria, Tshwane, will be hosting the Youth Expressions Festival from 16 to 30 June 2017. The festival celebrates the youth and their talents. It encourages young South Africans to look to the future and not repeat the mistakes of the past. The festival will feature a host of activities, including dance, music, drama, visual arts and workshops. 

Tickets cost R60 for each show.

Youth "Hustle On!!!" with Just 6 Live

Youth "Hustle On!!!" with Just 6 Live is your chance to experience one of the best up-and-coming in South African a cappella groups. Just 6 will perform their music, which is a mix of jazz, indigenous African music and soul. Don't miss the show at the POPArt Performing Arts Centre in Maboneng, Johannesburg, on 16 June 2017 from 3pm.

Tickets cost R100.

Youth Day at The Windybrow Arts Centre

Celebrate the day with Youth Day at The Windybrow Arts Centre in Hillbrow, Johannesburg. The festival is a preview to the Fête de la Musique that will take place in Newtown on 17 June. The day will a have a programme filled with music, food and activities including art based activities, a tour of the Windybrow Arts Centre and more. 

Entrance is free.

Orange Farm Youth Leadership Summit

Hosted by Empowaworx Events and Communications, the Orange Farm Youth Leadership Summit will be where the next generation of leaders  can learn, be inspired and empowered. Television presenter and actor Nimrod Nkosi is the MC and expected speakers include author and speaker Amanda Ndiki, AWCA Investment Holdings Limited director Lesego Sennelo, and entrepreneur and media mogul, Thokozani Nkosi.
